Overview
A stroke occurs when blood flow to part of the brain is blocked or bleeding occurs in the brain. Fast ambulance care is critical, even if symptoms seem to improve.
FAST Check

Other Possible Signs
- Sudden weakness or numbness on one side
- Sudden severe headache
- Sudden vision problems
- Dizziness, loss of balance, or trouble walking
- Confusion or reduced level of consciousness
First Aid
- Call 000 immediately for any suspected stroke.
- Keep the person at rest and reassure them.
- Note when symptoms started, or when they were last seen well.
- Do not give food, drink, or medication.
- Monitor airway, breathing, and responsiveness.
- If unconscious and breathing normally, place them in the recovery position.
- If not breathing normally, start CPR and use an AED.
