Immediate Cooling

Cool the burn under clean running water for 20 minutes as soon as possible. Cooling helps reduce pain and tissue damage.

Covering the Burn

After cooling, cover the area with a clean, non-stick dressing or clean plastic film. Keep the casualty warm, as burns can contribute to shock.

Call 000 for serious burns Pull away clothing stuck to the burn

Chemical Burns

Remove contaminated clothing if safe and flush the area with running water. Brush off dry powder before flushing if this can be done safely.

Electrical Burns

Do not touch the casualty until the power source is isolated. Once safe, use DRSABCD and call 000.
